The purchase of each FSU tag provides opportunities for FSU students at all campuses. The FSU tag holders span all 67 counties of the state of Florida. In 1987, the Florida Legislature authorized Bill 320.08058, approving the creation of the Florida State University License Plate.

On October 1st of that year, the first specialty plates were minted and made available for sale. The FSU specialty plate has grown to become one of the top selling plates in Florida, raising around $1.8 million annually. With costs of just $25 per year plus registration fees, the FSU plate has raised $54 Million in scholarship funds since 1987!
